Bastrop County community testing site expands to second location

The Bastrop County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is pleased to announce the opening of a second community testing site located at Elgin Ascension Seton. This new testing site will be providing free COVID-19 tests to Bastrop County residents who qualify and register through bastropcountycovid19.org or call 512-972-5560.

The Bastrop County Community testing site located in Bastrop at Mayfest Park is still operational. Residents will be able to choose which location they prefer during the registration process.

Appointments are required before you arrive at either testing location. The Elgin location will be open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The Bastrop location continues to be open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

“We are excited to have this second location in operation to serve the Bastrop County citizens located on the north side of our county,” said Christine Files, Bastrop Office of Emergency Management Deputy Director. “This area has been an area of concern. We hope our citizens will find this site easy to utilize.”

Both sites are using the PCR technique known as polymerase chain reaction. In this test, the goal is to selectively amplify trace amounts of genetic material of the virus. It is only possible if someone is actively infected, whether or not they are experiencing symptoms. Results are generally known within 48-72 hours.

Residents who register online can check their patient portal account for results while those who made an appointment over the phone must call 979-972-5560 to check for the result status.
