Bastrop County Cares, a nonprofit organization, is developing a community resource network (CRN) and looking for a person with passion for connecting and engaging people in meaningful projects that will build a healthier life for our County. We want a person who is a “systems-level thinker” and can work collaboratively with others. 


The Bastrop County Cares Community Engagement Specialist will play a key role in building a robust community resource network. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable about the Social Determinants of Health and interested in encouraging diversity, equity and inclusion strategies; community engagement best practices; and working with diverse communities and volunteers.


The Community Resource Network (CRN) is a project focused on improving the health and lives of people in our community. Utilizing a community engagement platform as a tool, we will have a database of volunteers, provide Network Weaving training and placement, Master Wellness certification, Community Health Worker training and design meaningful projects that will make a difference in our rural setting. We will also expand the CRN to include others utilizing volunteers from across the spectrum, partnering with local school districts, Chambers of Commerce, Network Weavers, non-profits and others to connect people to their passions. 


About Us


Bastrop County Cares is a county wide partnership working to develop comprehensive community initiatives by identifying community priorities, collecting and analyzing data, and bringing together collaborative partnerships that will result in community solutions. We identify large, complex community issues that no organization can solve on its own and build public will, advance policy, and mobilize and leverage funding. We serve as a backbone organization for nine active community coalitions and engage local nonprofits, faith communities, businesses, government, schools, and community members/volunteers in our work.


Job Purpose


This position will work with multiple systems across the community, engaging volunteers, companies, chambers, local school districts and others with a focus on connecting community members to their passions to improve health, wellness and resilience. This will involve supporting, designing and implementing volunteer projects across the county, ensuring high-quality volunteer experiences, and well-designed projects.


Job Responsibilities


  • Responsible for developing and implementing a volunteer engagement strategy for the County that will address the Social Determinants of Health and health equity.

  • Responsible for building relationships with micro-communities and assisting with the design and implementation of volunteer projects to address health equity and the Social Determinants of Health.

  • Partner with the current Network Weavers and grow that network, assist with their projects and communicate the value of the network.

  • Ensure high quality volunteer experiences and provide evaluation.

  • Responsible for recruitment of Master Wellness volunteers, training and moving to action.

  • Build partnerships with other entities to increase the pool of volunteers and to increase the number of community led projects. 

  • Build partnerships with non-profits to increase their ability to recruit volunteers.

  • Monitor and report on the impact and the results of community engagement efforts.

  • Develop an understanding and stay current with social community issues.

  • Review and approve projects as they are designed in the platform.

  • Maintain a web-based community engagement platform that serves multiple agencies and organizations across the county.

  • Maintain social media pages on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.

  • Support the strategic planning and growth of our focus areas.

  • Support and work with the technology manager.

  • Knowledge of one or more of the following fields: public or community health; volunteer engagement.

  • Demonstrated ability with Google Docs, google calendars, social media, and other relevant platforms.




Associates Degree or higher in related field (Social Work, Public Relations, Communications, Psychology, Sociology, Public Health, Humanities, Political Science).




Three (3) years of experience in community engagement, public health, volunteer program administration and management, public involvement/facilitation, and/or nonprofit management or administration.


Additional Information


This is a full-time, contract position housed in the Bastrop County Cares office, located in the Bastrop County Courthouse Annex. All positions are security-sensitive. Applicants are subject to a criminal history investigation, and employment is contingent upon the institution’s verification of credentials and/or other information required by the institution’s procedures, including the completion of the criminal history check. Applicants must have access to reliable transportation and may be asked to travel up to 50% of the time, including potential overnight stays. Some evening and weekend work will be required.
