23 cases of COVID-19 reported in Austin region as of Thursday

Bastrop County Cares has received communication from several local, state and national authorities over the last week in regards to the evolving situation related to the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus).


On Sunday, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) issued a recommendation that organizers cancel or postpone in-person events that consist of 50 people or more throughout the United States.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has also provided recommendations and implementation tools, as well as an interactive online dashboard tracking the spread of infection.


The WHO reported 164,837 cases worldwide and 6,470 deaths worldwide as of Monday morning.

Public health officials in the Austin metropolitan area, which includes Bastrop County, have confirmed 23 cases of the Coronavirus to date. The City of Austin and Travis County announced a ban on all events and gatherings of 250 people or more on Saturday night.
