Work Starts on Stony Point Playground

A new playground is coming to Stony Point this fall, and community members came together last week to start work on the site.

The Stony Point playground project is the second playground renovation Bastrop County Cares is facilitating in the county with support from St. David’s Foundation and KaBOOM. Last month McDade ISD students participated in a “design day” where they drew their dream playgrounds. That playground will be built in early May.

The initial work on Stony Point started bright and early on April 5 with a team from Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative digging out holes for a new playground fence. Soon they were joined by 20 volunteers from LCRA and a crew from the Bastrop County General Services Department to install new fence posts donated by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

With all that sweat equity invested in the new playground project, the job wrapped up around 2:30 p.m. Rick Arnic with LCRA led the charge, with support from Johnny Sanders from Bluebonnet. Christy Yen was the coordinator of volunteers for LCRA, and Ray Bitzkie with Bluebonnet was instrumental in drilling the post holes for the new fencing. “It was an incredible day of collaboration and I can’t say enough about the work done by everyone who came out,” Bastrop County Cares Director of Finance & Operations Dan Kleiner said. “We had a lot of fun and I really appreciate the hard work and dedication by everyone involved.”

Community members are excited that their new playground is underway. Several folks, including staff at the neighboring Head Start facility came out over the course of the day to thank the LCRA volunteers for caring about their community.
