In 2014, a small grassroots coalition, primarily composed of faith-based organizations, came together to address a critical need: assessing available resources, identifying overlaps, and closing gaps in services.

Initially envisioning a volunteer-run, direct-service organization, they soon realized the significant challenges of recruiting volunteers and raising funds.

History Continued...

The group began by replicating the “Hutto Has Heart” model, defining their service area as the BISD attendance zone. Their first major achievement was launching the Interagency Networking Group, a platform for collaboration and resource sharing.

Former County Judge Ronnie McDonald connected the group with Texas A&M, paving the way for their first pilot program, the Affordable Housing Coalition. This marked a significant milestone in their efforts to address pressing community needs.

Bastrop Mayor Ken Kesselus later invited Debbie Bresette to help refine the group’s vision and mission. Debbie’s guidance expanded their focus to a county-wide scope, emphasizing systems change over direct services. With this broader vision, the coalition shifted to intermediary work, fostering collaboration among coalitions and agencies across Bastrop County to drive meaningful, systemic impact.
