A Movement of Fathers: Inside the 2026 Fatherhood Summit

Blog Category: Thriving Communities

On March 7th, 2026, Bastrop County Cares proudly hosted its 3rd Annual Fatherhood Summit, bringing together fathers, community leaders, and local organizations for a powerful morning centered on connection, growth, and support.

From the moment the event began, it was clear that this was more than just a gathering, it was a space for honest conversation, shared experiences, and a renewed commitment to fatherhood. To watch highlights from this year’s Fatherhood Summit, click here.

One attendee and participant, William K. Blalock, a father of four young children, psychiatric mental health nurse, and graduate of the 24/7 Dad program, captured the heart of the day through his personal reflection:

“Being a father has always been one of my greatest goals and remains my greatest achievement. Nothing in life has given me greater purpose or meaning than helping my children lead purpose-driven lives.”

William’s story is an example of what happens when fathers are given the tools, support, and space to grow. Through his participation in the 24/7 Dad program, he not only strengthened his own approach to fatherhood but has since stepped into leadership, sharing his experience with other men and helping guide conversations in the community.

At this year’s summit, William returned not just as an attendee, but as a speaker and panel facilitator, demonstrating the ripple effect of investing in fathers.

Throughout the summit, speakers from across our community, including local leadership, county courts, and the National Fatherhood Initiative, shared insight, encouragement, and practical tools. A common theme echoed throughout the day: fathers are stronger when they support one another.

As William shared:

“I heard a lot about the power of men helping men become better husbands and fathers, all of us united by the goal of loving our children as best we can.”

In today’s world, fatherhood can feel isolating. Expectations are high, and the path is not always clear. But the Fatherhood Summit reminded us of something important, no one is meant to do this alone.

“As fathers, we exist in a shifting cultural landscape that is difficult, if not impossible, to navigate alone. I do not believe we were meant to.”

What stood out most was the sense of community in the room, a shared understanding that fatherhood is not just an individual journey, but a collective one.

“There is a growing movement of good men in Bastrop bearing these burdens together… It is refreshing and inspiring to see men holding space for each other and picking each other up.”

The day was not only about inspiration, it was about action. Fathers left with practical tools, meaningful connections, and access to resources that support their physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

And while even one inspired father would make the day a success, the impact reached far beyond that.

“If even one man walked away inspired to be a better father, the day was a success. But I believe many men were touched.”

Why This Work Matters

William’s journey reflects a larger truth: when fathers are supported, families grow stronger, and communities thrive.

Programs like 24/7 Dad are designed to meet men where they are, equipping them with the skills, confidence, and support systems needed to be present and engaged fathers. The impact doesn’t stop with one individual, it extends to children, partners, and the broader community.

By investing in fathers, we are investing in long-term outcomes: healthier families, stronger relationships, and more resilient communities.
