Access to healthcare can make a lasting difference in the health and well-being of individuals and families. But for many rural residents, barriers such as transportation, cost, and limited access to nearby providers can make receiving routine and preventive care difficult.
On October 20, Bastrop County Cares partnered with South Texas Family Planning & Health Corporation to bring its Medical Support Squad mobile clinic directly to the Cedar Creek community. Through outreach and coordination, Bastrop County Cares successfully secured all 15 available appointments for community members, helping connect residents with free and low-cost healthcare services close to home. The mobile clinic provided access to services including primary care, women’s health services, and breast and cervical cancer screenings.
Why This Matters
Preventive healthcare is an important part of building a healthier community. When residents can access screenings, routine care, and other health services earlier and closer to where they live, potential health concerns can be identified sooner and families are better connected to the resources they need. For Bastrop County Cares, partnerships like this are about more than filling appointments. They demonstrate the power of bringing organizations, resources, and residents together to address gaps in access to care.
The fact that every available appointment was secured also demonstrates a clear community need for accessible healthcare opportunities. It is through the support of our partners, funders, and community that Bastrop County Cares can continue connecting residents to resources that strengthen the health and well-being of Bastrop County.
We are grateful to South Texas Family Planning & Health Corporation, Cedar Creek United Methodist Church, and everyone who helped make this opportunity possible. To read more about South Texas Family Planning & Health Corporation, click here.
