Bastrop County Cares is proud to announce that we have been awarded a 2026 Family Literacy Grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.
This generous investment will help us expand access to early literacy resources for families in our community and strengthen the foundation for lifelong learning.
Thank you, Dollar General Literacy Foundation, for our 2026 Family Literacy Grant! Funding received will support our family literacy program by providing bilingual books, enriching developmental activities, and hands-on sensory learning materials that families can use both during program activities and at home.
Research consistently shows that the earliest years of a child’s life are critical for language development and future academic success. By providing families with high-quality, age-appropriate learning materials, we are creating opportunities for parents and caregivers to engage in meaningful learning experiences with their children every day. These resources will encourage reading together, strengthen communication skills, and promote positive parent-child interactions that support healthy development.
The grant will allow us to provide materials in both English and Spanish, ensuring that families can build literacy skills in the language that best supports their home environment while encouraging bilingual language development from infancy. By making these resources available for families to take home, we are extending learning beyond the classroom and empowering parents to be their child’s first and most important teacher.
This funding will help remove barriers to educational resources, foster a love of reading, and equip families with practical tools that support learning through everyday play and interaction. We are grateful to the Dollar General Literacy Foundation for its commitment to improving literacy outcomes and investing in communities across the country.
