Bastrop County Cares recently participated in the Broadband Summit, where our digital equity work in Bastrop County was presented as part of a broader national conversation about expanding access to technology and digital resources.
The summit provided an opportunity to highlight how Bastrop County Cares and community partners are addressing the digital divide in a rural community. Our digital equity work extends beyond broadband access. Meaningful access to technology also includes access to devices, digital literacy and skills, trusted community support, and the ability to use technology to connect with healthcare, education, employment, benefits, and other essential resources.
National Recognition for Digital Equity Work
Bastrop County Cares was nominated for three awards recognizing our digital equity efforts. The nominations placed Bastrop County Cares among organizations from across the country working to develop and implement approaches to digital equity. The recognition also reflects how work taking place locally in Bastrop County connects to a larger national effort to reduce barriers created by geography, income, and access to technology.
Representing Rural Communities
Participation in the Broadband Summit provided an opportunity to bring the experiences and needs of rural communities into national conversations about digital access. In Bastrop County, this work is shaped by listening to residents, identifying community needs, and working with local partners to connect individuals and families with resources and opportunities.
The three award nominations recognize the work of Bastrop County Cares staff and community partners who continue to support residents and address barriers to digital access. Bastrop County Cares will continue developing its digital equity efforts and exploring ways technology can help residents access essential services, information, and opportunities throughout Bastrop County.
