Women under 40 in Central Texas now have access to receive free breast cancer screening and diagnostics.

Breast Health Initiative chaired by Dr. Linda Ornelas – Wilson understands the importance of education and awareness impact on promoting early detection of breast cancer and increasing access to screening for women in Bastrop County. To detect cancer earlier and improve health outcomes we need continued community efforts. On July 28, 2023, the Breast Health Initiative, community partners, and the Bastrop County community celebrated the generosity of Carlos Liriano and Lost Pines Toyota. Carlos Liriano, Owner of Lost Pines Toyota, has donated $5,000 to expand breast cancer screening and diagnostics for women under 40, and the Toyota Corporate office is matching the donation with $5,000. This funding of $10,000 will cover a gap in access to care for women under 40 in Central Texas. Bastrop County Cares and the BCC Breast Health Initiative are grateful to Lost Pines Toyota and their corporate office for hosting the Bastrop County Cares Breast Health Initiative community outreach effort which now includes targeting women under 40. Dr. Julie Sprunt, a breast surgeon with Texas Breast Specialists, Dr. Jess Wilson, a breast cancer survivor, and the Breast Cancer Resource Center Executive Director Emily De Maria discussed the importance of early screening.

We greatly appreciate all involved in making this happen! Thank you to all of our Breast Health partners, Susan Dawson, Founder of CTX Addressing Cancer Together Coalition, and Dr. Linda Wilson, MD, Leader with the Bastrop County Cares Breast Health Initiative and a breast cancer survivor.
