Parents as Teachers Program Visits Phoenix High School

The Bastrop County Early Childhood Coalition partners with Parents as Teachers and Family Connects to provide resources and support to families across the county.

Recently, Aubrey Bennett, Lead Parent Educator with Parents as Teachers (PAT), worked with student-parents enrolled in Elgin ISD’s Phoenix High School, which is a competency-based high school.

Aubrey discussed the importance of parent-child interaction and how the teens are their child’s first and best teacher.  Each student wrote about different ways they have fun with their child and received informational handouts on parent-child interaction from the PAT Foundational Curriculum and “Young Moms and Young Dads” curriculum.

Community Health Centers of South-Central Texas’ Jessica Lopez brought the students formula for their infants and explained services that are available for the students regarding their health.

Jessica also provided information on medical training and job opportunities available to students interested in the medical field.

The PAT program also provided lunch for the students during this fun and informative group connection.
