This summer, Bastrop County Cares partnered with the Central Texas Food Bank, Friendship Church, and the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) to help children across Bastrop County access consistent meals while school was out.
From June through August, the Summer Meal Program provided 1,165 healthy meals to children at community sites throughout the county.
Helping Fill the Summer Meal Gap
During the school year, many children have access to meals through their schools. When summer begins, that regular source of food may no longer be available, creating an additional challenge for families. The Summer Meal Program helps address this gap by making nutritious meals and snacks available within local communities. By providing accessible meal sites, the program helps children maintain consistent access to nutritious food throughout the summer months.
Connecting Families and Community Resources
The program also provided opportunities to connect families with helpful resources and strengthen relationships between local organizations and the communities they serve. Partnerships with the Central Texas Food Bank, Friendship Church, and SFSP helped make it possible to reach children and families at multiple locations across Bastrop County.
Bastrop County Cares thanks each partner and community site that contributed to this summer’s program and helped provide 1,165 meals to local children from June through August.
