Bastrop County Cares recently attended the Esri User Conference in California, where organizations from across the country explored how Geographic Information Systems (GIS), data visualization, and artificial intelligence (AI) are helping communities solve complex challenges.
The conference showcased how technology can strengthen nonprofit work by improving access to services, identifying resource gaps, measuring impact, and supporting smarter, data-informed decisions. For Bastrop County Cares, it reinforced the value of using data to better understand community needs, strengthen programs, and improve service delivery across Bastrop County.
One of the conference highlights was the national recognition of Bastrop County Cares’ Broadband Equity and GIS mapping initiatives. During a conference session, Bernie South showcased the organization’s collaborative efforts to expand broadband access and digital equity, while GIS Analyst Kirsten’s cell phone data maps were featured alongside innovative projects from across the country.
A central theme throughout the conference was that technology should never replace relationships, it should strengthen them. That message aligns closely with Bastrop County Cares’ mission. By combining trusted community partnerships with data-driven insights, the organization is better equipped to respond to community needs and improve outcomes for the individuals and families it serves.
