Access to technology is an important part of everyday life, from managing healthcare and finances to staying connected with family and accessing community resources.
To help make these skills more accessible, Bastrop County Cares is bringing digital literacy directly to where community members already gather through our Digital Literacy on the Go initiative.
Offered through our Economic Stability Program, Digital Literacy on the Go provides fun, interactive learning opportunities at food distributions, baby showers, community events, and other Bastrop County Cares outreach activities. Instead of asking community members to travel to a class, we bring practical technology education directly into the community.
Participants are invited to stop by our Economic Stability table to learn simple but valuable digital skills, including how to recognize common scams, create strong passwords, set up a Medical ID on their smartphone, and protect their personal information online. Through hands-on activities and one-on-one conversations, participants leave with practical knowledge they can apply in their everyday lives.
Recently, Digital Literacy on the Go was featured at one of our community food distributions, where families and individuals participated in interactive activities while picking up food. The outreach created an opportunity for community members to learn essential digital safety skills in a welcoming and accessible setting.
As technology continues to play a larger role in daily life, Bastrop County Cares is committed to helping ensure everyone has the knowledge and confidence to use it safely. For more information contact Marissa Prieto at marissa@bastropcares.org
